What do you mean by tiling the map? Also, would it work if I went way north west, then made the map, so that the corner would be where I want the corner? Unfortunately not, since 1.8 MC no longer adjusts the center of the map to where you are when you first look at it. It has a fixed grid for maps.
Posts: 7,057 Location: , location, location! Minecraft: Hexalobular. Not in vanilla. If you want an empty map that you can use at a new spot you can make a new one. If you want the map to cover the same area but be updated you'll have to carry it (or a copy) back to the area it depicts and run around holding it to update it. Just testing.
Bonus tip - make the wall out of jackolanterns or other light source materials and mount your item frames and maps on them to create an evenly backlit map wall. Like this?
